Did I say CDT? I meant PNT. Pacific Northwest Trail. This is a 1200 mile route that starts at the Continental Divide in Montana and runs all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Why did I change my mind? Well, there are a few reasons.
Reason #1: The North Cascades!!!!
Reason #2: The Olympic Peninsula!!!
Reason #3: Glacier National Park!!!! Okay, that was a perk of the CDT too. Which brings us to...
Reason #4: a shorter time commitment and less financial burden. This just fits better with my life situation at the moment. With all the student loans and the unpaid internship I just finished, it's been a little hard to save money for another 5 month hike. But I am hoping to make every moment count on a shorter, but equally awesome hike. Also, it's easier to find great people to watch my dog for 2-3 months rather than 5 months. Also, I can hike the PNT without completely moving out of my house. All great things.
And though I do love a good walk across the country, I'll have to save that for another year. I'm looking forward to a shorter adventure that's not quantified by traveling from one international border to the other. But more of an exploration of what is arguably the most beautiful corner of this country.
Reason #5: Adventure and Challenges! As a relatively new trail, it's not the kind of hike that you can just mindlessly walk, day after day. There will be cross-country bushwhacking, off-trail navigating, some road walks, lots of fallen trees and sweeping views of secret wilderness.
The PNT is something I've wanted to do ever since learning of its existence. And now seems like a good time to do it. Mud and I will be heading out in mid-July.
But in the mean time, you can buy a signed copy of my book! It's a real life physical thing now, not just an idea in my head or on a screen. To help raise funds for my upcoming hike, I've started this Indiegogo campaign. There are other perks too. Some edible, some involving nutrition consultations or post cards from the trail. By contributing to the campaign, you're helping to sustain the life of this blog (and me!) and assure daily posts about our PNT hike. I hope you're as excited about this as I am!
Thanks so much!!
